In a hard-fought match, Hungary consistently appeared closer to taking the lead, with the opponent being saved by the goalpost once in each half. In the last moments of the ten-minute extra time, following a quick counter-attack, substitute Csoboth scored the decisive goal from a pass by Roland Sallai, keeping Hungary’s hope of advancing to the round of 16 alive.

Although the outcome was not what Hungarian fans had hoped for, the national team’s first group match against Switzerland at the tournament in Germany was still exceptionally popular.

Hungary’s performance greatly improved in the second half, but it was not enough to level the scoreline, which ended 3–1 to Switzerland. In the group’s other game Germany easily beat Scotland 5–1 in the tournament’s opening match last night.
