Rally Hungary set a goal to improve the event’s environmental performance, which was so successful that it received the FIA’s two-star rating (three stars being the maximum) in 2024.

The festival will feature productions made for cinema, television, and streaming platforms in various genres; overall, around a hundred Hungarian films will be screened in Veszprém, Balatonfüred, and Balatonalmádi at a total of twelve venues.

According to the announcement, during restoration work in the Veszprém Castle, a painting showing the Evangelist Luke was found in the St Emeric Church, while a figure depicting an Austrian soldier was discovered in the Tejfalusy House, a building that previously functioned as a canonry.

‘Veszprém is clearly looking for its place. However, it is close to Budapest, Vienna, Győr, and Lake Balaton, the landscape is also beautiful and its location and millennia of tradition all predestine it to be a cultural capital and a gastronomic centre. It has all the necessary ingredients.’

In response to the ruling of the Veszprém regional court, Fidesz MP Gergely Gulyás and KDNP MP Zsolt Semjén have submitted a legislative amendment proposal to parliament on 13 July which states that only women who have worked for 40 years as women are eligible for early retirement.

The Veszprém Regional Court ruled that a trans woman named Elvira is eligible for early retirement under the government’s ‘Women 40’ programme. Fidesz MP Gabriella Selmeczi and president of the Interest Group of Hungarian Women Kinga Szőnyi spoke out against the decision.

Máté Vincze highlighted that this year, the Night of Museums series of events will be promoted by Erika Miklósa, holder of the Hungarian Order of St Stephen, Kossuth Prize and Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning opera singer, who will serve as the goodwill ambassador for the event.

This year’s Hungarian Film Festival, jointly organised by the National Film Institute and Veszprém–Balaton 2023–European Capital of Culture programme, took place from 7 to 10 June in Veszprém, Balatonfüred, and Balatonalmádi.

The Balaton Uplands National Park plays an important part in the Veszprém-Balaton project of the European Capital of Culture programmes.

Veszprém-Balaton’s year as European Capital of Culture will be dedicated to creativity, with art, music and gastronomy-related events being at the core of the programmes.
